“Eating The Spiral” consists of mixing Classical music with Jazz music. The band plays original music written by three different composers including Juan Oliveira, Noé Secula and me. This is a eight pieces band, a jazz quartet with saxophone, guitar, piano and bass plus a classical string quartet. The music is inspired by Salvador Dalí’s artistry, and the drumlessness of the band additioned to the presence of a string quartet focuses the sound on shapes and colors.

Biography

Meet Juan José Cabillas, a passionate and accomplished musician hailing from Cádiz, Spain. With a strong musical foundation nurtured from a young age, he fell in love with the saxophone at the tender age of seven. His journey as a musician took off when he received formal training at the esteemed Manuel de Falla Professional Royal Conservatory of Music.

In pursuit of excellence, Juan José Cabillas continued his musical education at Musikene, the renowned Higher Music Center of the Basque Country in San Sebastián. At this prestigious institution, he seized every opportunity and created multiple successful projects, such as Juan José Cabillas with Strings, Ekhilore Quintet, and Red Cheeks Quartet, captivating audiences across Spain with his performances.

Notably, in 2019, Juan José Cabillas collaborated with a symphonic orchestra to record his debut album under the banner of Juan José Cabillas with Strings. Throughout his time at Musikene, he honed his skills on the saxophone as his primary instrument and mastered the flute as his secondary one.

Driven by a desire for continuous growth, Juan José Cabillas furthered his studies in Switzerland, embarking on the Master of Arts in Musical Performance (Jazz Production/Performance) in Basel in 2021.

An ambitious artist with a creative spirit, Juan José Cabillas initiated the Juan José Cabillas Quartet, which led to the release of his eponymous second album in 2021. Currently, he is immersed in a captivating project called "Eating the Spiral," recorded in May 2023, and going to be released in September 2023.
